Sacred Rue Candle

Ruta graveolens, commonly known as rue or ruda, is also called the “herb-of-grace”. Light this candle for 7 days as you ask, believe, and receive your blessings.

The candle is a rich dark green which comes from blending the wax with the rue herb, including twigs, leaves, and branches. It is bestowed with the rich, fragrant oil from its leaves.

Throughout history, rue or ruda has been given in spiritual baths, for cleansing negative energy, and spirit attachment. Its fresh, pungent odor believed to rid a space, the body, and the presence of evil spirits or the “victim mentality”.

Rue has been a common ingredient in voodoo, shaman practices, and spell making. During the Middle Ages, it was a symbol of recognition between witches. The Catholic Church also used a branch of rue to sprinkle holy water on its followers: during this time it was known as the “herb of grace.” Hasidic Jews also were taught that rue should be placed into amulets to protect them from epidemics and plagues.
